Visit Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island, a historic island just off the coast of Stone Town. Once used as a quarantine station and detention site, it is now famous for its population of giant Aldabra tortoises, some of which are over a century old. Walk through shaded pathways where these gentle giants roam freely, learn about the island’s history, and enjoy views across the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
After exploring Changuu Island, continue by boat to the breathtaking Nakupenda Sandbank, a pristine white sand formation that appears in the middle of the sea at low tide. Here you can swim in crystal-clear shallow waters, snorkel among small coral patches and tropical fish, or simply relax on the soft sand while enjoying fresh seafood served on the beach.
